...magnificent nature, ocean, fishing, great beaches, golf, culture - to name just a few things Karmøy has to offer!

 

  Fishing- and sightseeing:
South Geitungen in Skudeneshavn. Built in 1924. All through the summer a local ship (L/B Skudeholm) sails to and from the lighthouse in the evenings. Guided tour. Fishing opportunities. Tickets from the tourist information in Skudeneshavn.

M/K Karmøyfjord can take 20 persons on board, and 14 can fish at the same time. Bring your own fishing equipment, or rent it. For information or reservation call Harald Melhus in Skudeneshavn at: 52 82 72.70.

Stavern, an old wood ship that can take 48 passengers with good saloons, 5 cabins with 10 beds, can be rented for 3 000 NOK for a 3 hour trip. Contact Odd Einar Mæland, phone: 52 83 23 24 / 52 70 37 51.

Bicycle:
The Northsea route (Nordsjøruta) brings you close to the Rogaland nature. Before heading out on your bike, get a copy of "Sykkelguiden" it has all the information about the rout you could ever want. Surfing:
On Åkrasanden you can rent boards and be thought how to use them. Contact Karmøy brettseilerklubb / Loyd Moksheim on phone: 911 18 791. Homepage for the club: www.surfkarmoy.no.

Beaches and their facilities:
- Lindøy, parking and toilettes. - Dragøy. - Aksnesstranden, parking and toilettes. - Åkrasanden, parking, toilettes, windsurfing. - Ferkingstad, parking and toilettes. - Sandvesanden, parking and toilettes. - Sandholmen, parking and toilettes. - Høynessjøen, parking. - Sandhåland, parking. - Hemnes, parking.

Diving:
Karmøy Sportsdykkerklubb in Kopervik is helpful to anyone wanting to dive in the ocean around Karmøy. Can fill air up to 22 bar. Contact Jon Helge Kaaløy on phone: 52 85 22 01 or 415 07 184.

Flying:
Haugaland Seilflyklubb that has a hanger on Helganes will take you up in a plane for 800 NOK an hour. A great way to see Karmøy! Contact Staveland on phone: 52 72 58 44.

Golf:
- Skudeneshavn has a 9-hol course. Open all days, equipment can be rented. Phone: 911 60 311.
- Kolnes has a 6-hol course. Open all days, equipment can be rented. Phone: 52 82 00 05.
- Torvastad has a 9-hol course. Open all days, equipment can be rented. Phone: 52 83 29 50.

Horseback riding:
- Stall Frisk arranges trips into the Karmøy nature. Contact Geir Grindhaug on phone: 52 81 58 27 / 958 15 827.
- Karmøy Ridesenter has ponnieriding Saturday and Sunday, open all days all year round from 9AM to 7PM. Instructor is available. Contact on phone: 52 82 06 73.

 

Experience the Viking era:
At the Vikingegarden on Bukkøy in Avaldsnes, you can get a guided tour around the reconstructed Viking farm. Learn about the daily routine of the Vikings. Only available in the summer-season. Contact Karmøy Cultural experiences on phone: 52 83 84 00 / 951 036 12. E-mail: kultopp@online.no.

Motor sport:
Helganes Motor sport Center offers trial, motor cross, RC and offroad car. Open Saturday 12-4 or after appointment. Contact the center on phone: 52 84 04 80 (or 905 08 121).

Adventure routs:
- The Northsea route (Nordsjøvegen):
The route is designed for bicycles, and if you do the route, you are sure to have an adventurous journey! The whole route starts in Kristiansand and ends in Haugesund, so it's more then a few hours on the bike...
- The Viking route (Vikingløypa):
Norway's first king - Harald Hårfagre - made the whole of Norway into one kingdom for the very first time. If you take this route you will experience a wide range of historical events and places. Olavskirken and the Viking farm is central in this, you will also experience 'real live Vikings'. Other things to experience while on Karmøy:

Fishing:
Go out to sea in a boat or try your luck from basically anywhere on the island, you should be able to catch a fish or two. There are several opportunities to go out with a bigger boat, a fishing vessel , they know where the fish hides! But if you prefer to fish in freshwater, we have many small lakes for you to try out!

Our nature:
Feel the forces of nature on a stormy day, se the foaming waters crash against the rocks. Or find nature in all it's wonderful display of color when things start to bloom in the spring.

Karmøy's nature is inviting in all it's adversary, the opportunities for the outdoors people is virtually endless.

And don't forget our beautiful white sandy beaches, and the variety of wildlife.

Boat:
The boat is a natural part of any holiday for many people, and on Karmøy there are no end to all the wonderful places to visit with your boat, or a rented boat. The cozy harbors on the west side, the island on the outside of Karmøy, on the inside you have every opportunity to make the most of your boat-holiday, and from Karmsundet, it's a short distance to Ryfylke and all it's sights...

We have mentioned only a few of the many, many things you can do, see, experience, feel... when visiting Karmøy. Karmøy is not a small island, we are quite a few people on it, and we do have a lot of things to show you, you are most welcome, anytime!
