Vikingfestivalen
Karmøy is where Norway was born, in the time
of the mighty Vikings, Karmøy was an important place!
On historical ground you can join in the party
Viking-style, or study how the Vikings lived their daily life, you
might want to go to the market as the Vikings
did? Or maybe take part in the historical Asbjørnmarsjen
or in the vikingopptoget which both are done by foot. The vikingopptoget
often has guests from all of Norway and even visitors from other
countries.
You are invited to "sagakveld" (story
night) at Avaldsnes by the vikinggården. There will be storytelling,
competitions, dramatized shows, dance and lots more, food is served.
To the historical seminar held here, scholars from Norway and other
countries take part.
Lectures held in earlier years can be bought from
the festival-office.

Fiskeridagene in Åkrehamn
The Fiskeridagene (Fish days?) in Åkrehamn is a relative
new festival, but are taking it's place along side the more known
festivals
of the island.
Those who arrange it is placing more and more importance on fishing
related activities, and on more entertainment both for children
and adults. Marked places are set up for the local traders to sell
their merchandise.
A carnival is set up, a place for children and teens to have fun,
and a dance is held on Saturday night.
On Sunday an outdoors religious service is held, several religious
groups are represented.
The harbor in Åkrehamn has become a popular place, thanks
to the fact that you still can get fresh things from the sea right
from the fishermen here, but also because of the many artistic expressions
you will find here, on walls and other things.
